As Unfair reopens, Sadie remains unreachable, and Sam struggles to restart work on the planned Macbeth expansion for Master of the Revels. A failed attempt to bring her back culminates in a bitter confrontation at her home. Sadie withdraws but finishes the expansion remotely before giving birth, straining their partnership even as the release stays on schedule.
Summary
Work on the Master of the Revels expansion, slated for December release, stalls by April because Sadie is effectively unreachable. Mori, the lead, tells Sam he can proceed without her but prefers not to. Sam’s attempts to manage Sadie by text fail, deepening his frustration.
On the day Unfair’s offices reopen, Sam plans a joint morale speech with Sadie. She arrives visibly pregnant but is overcome outside, vomiting and citing hyperemesis gravidarum. Unable to enter, she leaves; Sam cleans the sidewalk himself and imagines how Marx would advise him to comfort the staff and carry on.
The next morning, Sadie requests early maternity leave, promising to supervise from home. Sam fears the schedule risk: the Macbeth-themed expansion must release within a year to avoid costly engine upgrades and to help the expensive title recoup.
Sam goes to Sadie’s house, recalling his fixation and resentment toward the home she’d shared with Marx. Inside, amid paint fumes for the nursery, he urges a plan: delegate or let him oversee. Sadie bristles, accusing him of wanting to claim her work. Their argument escalates until Sadie breaks down, saying she can’t return to the office; Sam calls her weak and demands she finish the game.
Sadie asks him not to come back. She stays away from Unfair but works from home with Mori, completing Master of the Revels: The Scottish Expansion a week before giving birth. The expansion releases on time. Sam hears it is good but cannot bring himself to play it for many months.
