Chapter 10

Summary

• Struan is on a small boat approaching a pirate ship
• Struan and his men are armed and ready for battle
• Struan has given orders for the China Cloud to attack if he does not return within an hour
• Struan boards the pirate ship and is met by Chinese pirates speaking and laughing
• The pirate ship has 40 cannons and is well-equipped
• Struan meets with the captain of the pirate ship to discuss terms for the release of a kidnapped Chinese boy
• Struan ultimately agrees to pay a ransom for the boy's release and the pirate captain agrees not to attack Struan's ships again
• Wu Kwok, a pirate, agrees to sell his ship to Struan on the condition that Wu Kwok's son can captain the ship
• Struan agrees to these terms and also agrees to only sell the ship to Wu Kwok's son or Wu Fang Choi at sea
• Wu Kwok gives Struan a flag and a diary from the Scarlet Cloud, a ship lost at sea and attacked by pirates
• Wu Kwok says he was not present during the attack on the Scarlet Cloud and does not know what happened to the crew
• Struan agrees to pay Wu Kwok for the ship and for the diary and flag from the Scarlet Cloud
