Summary

• Struan is approached by a Chinese man in a garden at night
• The man gives Struan a piece of paper with a seal on it and tells him that Jin-qua wants to meet with him
• Struan gets into a palanquin and is taken to Jin-qua's house
• Jin-qua tells Struan that he has been arrested and needs a large sum of money for his release
• Struan agrees to pay the money and arranges for it to be delivered the next day
• Jin-qua tells Struan to leave the city as soon as possible
• Struan and Jin-qua have a business meeting to discuss the sale of half of Jin-qua's opium for 50,000 pounds
• Jin-qua asks Struan for four favors in return for the deal and Struan agrees
