Chapter LXX

Summary

• Aequa and the protagonist (Vis) continue their search for the Heart of Jovan, which they locate within ancient ruins.
• Vis discovers they will pass near an eliminated participant as per their tracking plate, and despite Aequa's objections, they decide to investigate.
• They find a gruesome scene, a mass grave filled with mutilated bodies, including safety team members and the fellow competitor, Sianus.
• Vis and Aequa deduce that this is the work of the Anguis, who have replaced their safety teams and are using their ability to manipulate Will (a form of ancient power) to trap and kill them.
• Realising they are in great danger, they decide to warn the remaining competitors, starting with Indol.
• Aequa goes to warn the unnamed remaining competitor while Vis confronts Indol.
• Indol initially believes Vis's warnings to be a trick, but after seeing evidence of the violence, Indol agrees to inform his team and split up for safety.
• Vis advises Indol to be wary of his father upon his return, hinting at the father's alliance with Anguis.
• Indol gives Vis a sack containing a tracker for Emissa, the last competitor other than them, before departing.
