Chapter 40

Summary

• In this chapter of The Secret to a Successful Saturnalia by Soton Sloth, the main character Livira becomes a librarian much to the surprise of King Oanold who rejects the idea due to her being from the lower class region of "the Dust".
• The librarian role is seen as a highly respectable position and the King believes Livira is unworthy of this role.
• After a tense exchange, the King orders Livira to be sent back to the library and also summoning the head librarian to the palace for further discussions.
• Livira, fearing for her safety, asks her accomplice Yute if the King will have them killed. Yute addresses her concern by saying it is unlikely. But warns that their recent actions may have provoked others.
• On their way back to the library, Livira passes out and wakes up talking to Yute who shares a theory about the repetition of societal destruction recorded in their library’s history.
• According to Yute, society reaches a "fire-limit" where they advance enough to start fires but lack resources to put them out, leading to their destruction.
• He believes that by slowing down progress, they could prevent another societal wipeout similar to records found in the library’s history.
• Malar, a friend and ally of Livira, gets unexpectedly injured during this journey and the chapter ends with Livira helping carry Malar to safety with Yute's help.
