Chapter 67

Summary

• Livira runs through a library filled with smoke, accompanied by Evar and Malar.
• They hear a distinct sound leading them down an aisle. They believe it's an Escape, a serpent-like creature that is harmful to them.
• Livira and Malar devise a plan to take possession of the bodies of "assistants," beings created to preserve the library, which are currently occupied by Escapes.
• They wait for the right moment and then separate, with Livira chasing after one of the Escapes.
• Inside the assistant's body, Livira fights against the Escape who is trying to overpower her and take her memories.
• Livira eventually overcomes the Escape and takes control of the assistant's body, only to be attacked by a second Escape, which she also overcomes.
• She retrieves a sword and meets up with Evar and Malar, who have successfully taken control of another assistant's body.
• They return to the central part of the library, where the rest of their group is panicking due to the library fire and their impending doom.
• Livira feels odd and detached from her emotions due to occupying the assistant's body.
• She wants to create a portal to help her friends escape, but this goes against library rules, which only permit assistants to have such powers. Additionally, this could have potentially disastrous consequences given Livira is still bound by time.
• Malar is hesitant to assist as it goes against the rules, but Livira grabs his sword and cuts her palm, drawing a circle on the floor with her blood.
• Doing so creates a shimmering light and a portal which she falls through, fulfilling her desire to break the rules just as she always has.
