Chapter 57

Summary

• The character Evar contemplates the obstacle his sister, Clovis, poses to his return to the location known as the Exchange, where he'd connected with Livira through a shared exchange of time. He is deeply torn about facing Livira again, especially given his strong feelings for her.
• Evar's brothers, Kerrol and Starval, devise a plan that they hope will create a distraction for the Assistant and Soldier, allowing them to cross into the Exchange. They use a mysterious Mechanism with a book, triggering an onslaught of beings known as Escapes.
• Using the chaos created by the Escapes, Evar and his brothers manage to enter the pool to the Exchange before Clovis can reach them. Despite her efforts to follow them, Clovis is stopped by the Soldier.
• Upon arriving in the Exchange, Evar and his brothers encounter Livira and other inhabitants known as sabbers, as well as a pair of a strange white-skinned individuals. The situation escalates quickly, leading to Clovis entering the scene and seizing Livira.
• At this critical moment, one of the white-skinned beings steps forward, exuding a powerful aura, and commands Clovis to release Livira, which she does. Evar realizes these white-skinned creatures are similar to a being he encountered in his past.
