Cassia and her mother, Queen Naccara Emberclaw of Vere Celene, create a magical window to the human world using a silver pool within the caves deep in Lady of Vere Celene in order to communicate with Everen, Cassia's brother.
They warn Everen, who is now in a human form, that he must complete the bond process with a human by the Feast of Flowers or they risk losing everything.
Everen is resentful of his mother's and sister's manipulation and control but eventually resigns to the fate that they have laid out for him.
Cassia is yet to tell Everen about the prophecy she learned from the Seer, Miligrist, which foretells the imminent destruction of their dragon home, Vere Celene, by a volcanic eruption.
The Seer also predicts in the prophecy that they would be able to reclaim their original homeland, Lumet, which is currently occupied by humans, after Vere Celene's destruction.
To survive, the dragons must make the humans accept the incoming dragon invasion before Vere Celene is destroyed. This can only be achieved through Everen's bond with a human as he is the link between the dragons and humans.
Cassia ends the chapter alone watching the sun set, hoping much relies on Everen’s success of the prophecy for their species' survival.
