Summary

• The main character sees herself as the common thread or tie that binds numerous winding storylines involving herself and the other characters, including Davis Cobb, Emmy, Bethany, Theo, Aaron and Paige.
• She sees herself as the perfect mark, susceptible to manipulation due to her loyalty, fascination with storytelling, and inclination to throw herself completely into anything she embarks on.
• She talks to Davis Cobb and pressure him to confess to spying on her, convinced that he has been preserving her emails but he denies any wrongdoings, suggesting that he is not the stalker she thought he was and was merely following legal advice.
• She tries to trust her student Izzy, who seems to know something she can't reveal openly. She tries to make Izzy comfortable enough to share her secret.
• Izzy finally confesses that she had seen the name TeachingLeahStevens in an email, initially leading her to believe the main character was having an affair. Izzy now believes the stalker sending the emails is not Davis Cobb, but someone else.
• The main character realizes it's likely Theo who has been stalking her, as he was perfectly positioned to send her anonymous emails from the school library computer. She confronts him, but ends up dismissing the moment to keep her promise to Izzy.
• Finally, the main character realizes that the stalker is probably not Davis Cobb, but Theo. The torment has not ended, and she must now bring herself to face this new reality.
