- Bethany's apartment is sparse and clean, suggesting she was starting over after some event.
- Hidden in Bethany's apartment, the protagonist finds letters from prison sent by Bethany to a nameless person, full of threats, anger, and accusing the recipient of having abandoned Bethany.
- She also finds a letter stating that the sender will help her when she gets out. The protagonist suspects this is from Emmy.
- The protagonist finds an envelope with a new credit card, and her name (Leah Stevens) is on the front. Panicked, she searches the whole apartment to find any more hidden secrets.
