Chapter Seventy-Three
Summary
- The chapter opens on an event called the Summit in a conference center in a territory called Midgard. The Summits are held every ten years and attended by regional leaders, a representative from a group called the Asteri, and a few other important individuals. The setting for this particular Summit is different from previous meetings as it's held in a smaller location in southeastern Midgard.
- Hunt, the protagonist, has spent the last five days in a holding cell in the conference center, isolated and treated as a prisoner. He was brought out only to serve as a symbol of the Asteri's control over him.
- As he is escorted into the main gathering, Hunt notes the presence of different groups: Angels, shifters, Fae, witches and more. Among the most notable individuals present are Fury Axtar (an assassin), Pollux (commander of Sandriel's Legion), Princess Bryce (the Autumn King's daughter), Queen Hypaxia (Queen of the Valbaran Witches), and Ruhn (a prince).
- The arrival of the Asteri, six powerful entities who control the Republic, creates a wave of reverence among the rest of the attendees, and their statements establish their total control over the proceedings.
- The Asteri give their blessings to Queen Hypaxia, and they encourage the attendees to discuss a solution to an ongoing war. They emphasize the horror of the war and the blame placed on a group called humans.
- The chapter ends with Micah, presumably an important figure, formally opening the Summit and acknowledging the Asteri's authority.
