Chapter Sixty
Summary
- In the chapter, Bryce attempts to log into her deceased friend Danika's work account at Redner Industries, believing there could be valuable information on her involvement with a synth drug. Despite multiple password attempts, she fails to gain access. Bryce continues to speculate that the drug, a magical artifact called the Horn, and a creature called the kristallos are intricately linked, much to the skepticism of her companion, Hunt.
- Bryce reveals that Danika's brother, Ruhn, mentioned needing venom from the synthetic creature, kristallos, for the creation of an antidote to the synth drug. While initially reluctant, Hunt agrees that acquiring venom could be crucial if the synth becomes a widespread, lethal drug.
- Emotions run high between Bryce and Hunt as they reveal their own personal hardships and shared sympathies, especially how they both carry deep love for their lost ones - Danika for Bryce and Shahar for Hunt. Hunt also admits that he sees Bryce as a close friend who tolerates his flaws and understands his feelings.
- Bryce buys chocolate croissants to celebrate Danika's would-be 25th birthday. However, to her horror, she finds the word 'Trash' smeared on the pastries with chocolate. Knowing it to be the work of rival Amelie Ravenscroft, Hunt furiously confronts her at a bar and warns her to stay away from Bryce.
- Bryce is distressed by Hunt's aggressive actions to protect her and fears the consequences he might face. Nonetheless, she appreciates Hunt's continued support and companionship, referring to him as her mirror.
- In the chapter's conclusion, Bryce takes a crucial decision. She contacts Ruhn's medwitch, intending to provide venom for the antidote. She tells Hunt she might know where they can get kristallos venom and leaves for her appointment.
