Chapter Eighty

Summary

• Flashing red lights signal that the tank has exploded, simultaneously killing Lehabah and the nøkk.
• Bryce, having just taken synth, crawls for the front door, hauls herself up and opens it, but does not go through.
• Bryce leaves Syrinx on the ground, goes to Jesiba’s office, and retrieves the disassembled Godslayer Rifle from above the desk.
• She also retrieves a glass vial from a safe and takes a potion. From the safe, she takes a golden bullet inscribed with a grinning skull and the words “Memento Mori,” meaning, “Remember that you will die.”
• Bryce begins to assemble the rifle, using magic she unnaturally possesses due to the synth, while Micah surges up towards her location.
• As Micah emerges from the iron door, Bryce clicks the last piece of the rifle, loaded with a golden bullet, into place. She slides to a stop before the gaping window and takes aim. Hunt realizes that Lehabah’s death had bought Bryce the seconds she needed to kill Micah.
• Bryce pulls the trigger, shooting the bullet straight through Micah’s head.
