Summary
Suspended between life and death, Bryce surges toward the surface of the veil, her power shifting through forms as Danika’s final goodbye propels her onward. She hears Hunt’s answering challenge and speeds toward him, knowing he has been fighting to keep her heart beating.
On the Old Square stones, Hunt administers chest compressions and lightning shocks, recognizing Bryce’s approaching power like a reflection of his own. He refuses to relent, waiting for her to return, until Bryce bursts back into life, warmth and light filling her.
Within the shelter of Hunt’s ember-glowing wings, Bryce realizes they are safe and that she breathes again. She notices his brow unmarked, the slave halo gone, and they share a tender, teasing exchange that confirms their bond amid the aftermath of devastation and healing.
Doors open across the street as citizens emerge, stunned by the restored city and the radiant pair before the Gate. Bryce rises, feeling her vast, communal power beneath her, takes Hunt’s hand, and together they step forward to meet the watching world.
