Chapter Eighty-Four
Summary
- The witch-queen Hypaxia receives a distress call informing her that all weaponry including brooms, cars, and helicopters in the conference center armory have been destroyed; Hunt and the Autumn King blame the Archangel Micah for the sabotage.
- Fury offers her off-site helicopter as an alternative mode of transport, and Ruhn initiates a plan to move out. With the city in chaos, Sabine orders their forces to hold positions in Moonwood and FiRo.
- Despite Hunt's frustration and call to action, Sabine informs him that there are no wolf packs available for dispatch to the Old Square. However, the elderly Prime of the wolves indicates that one wolf, Bryce, is still out in the square fighting.
- Upon seeing Bryce fighting with Danika's sword, the Prime praises Bryce, declaring her a 'true wolf.' Hunt asks Isaiah for his phone and dials a number, seeking a favor from the Viper Queen.
- Jesiba receives a call from Bryce who is headed towards Asphodel Meadows. Bryce requests backup, indicating there are many children and infants in danger.
- Despite Sabine's order for Ithan Holstrom to stay at his post, Ithan declares he is heading to Asphodel Meadows to provide help. This inspires a number of forces the abandon their posts and come to assist the children.
- The chapter ends with Ithan sprinting toward Asphodel Meadows, carrying the hope of the defenseless and triggering the united actions of the canine forces, including wolves, jackals, coyotes, wild dogs, hyenas, dingoes, and foxes, to protect the youth.
