Chapter Sixty-Four

Summary

• Hunt is recovering from injury after having his wings cut off. His healing is not yet complete and he is in pain.
• Bryce arrives home and reveals a hidden video from her late friend Danika. The footage shows inhumane scientific experiments involving the creation of superhuman abilities via the substance "synth". Particularly heightened human performance was observed in a human female subject when injected with synth.
• Hunt and Bryce suspect this breakthrough could be desired by rebels and that it may be connected to Danika's death. They conclude that the killer could have been high on synth.
• Hunt, considering the implications of the video footage, advises Bryce to proceed cautiously, concerned about potential retaliation from Micah. Bryce is initially resistant but agrees to take it slow with their investigation.
• The two share an intimate moment, confessing their feelings for each other. They begin to become physically intimate until an injury on Hunt's back is reopened. He refuses medical assistance at first, but Bryce insists and a medwitch is called in.
• After Hunt's wound is treated and he is confirmed to be okay, Bryce leaves him to rest. She, however, can't sleep and accesses Danika's old accounts, causing their old building to be set ablaze. She realizes that she's getting closer to the truth.
• She receives a message from Tharion about a possible "synth" drug deal happening at the Black Dock. She decides to investigate the lead by herself, disregarding potential danger.
