Chapter Seventy-Nine

Summary

• Bryce managed to recover her friend Syrinx from the watery dread of the nøkk, a beast who had been spying on her in the library for some time. To get Syrinx out of the water, Bryce carried him and fought against her own waning strength and air, even as the nøkk clawed at her and she took a fall.
• The club's monster drove Bryce back into the water, trying to snatch the knife she had tied to her leg and aiming to finish her off. Defiant, Bryce punched the nøkk and fought for life for not just her own, but for her friend as well.
• Eventually, she managed to surface, get Syrinx out of the water and direct Lehabah, another friend of hers, to do chest compressions on him as she herself was dragged back in by the nøkk. Bryce fought hard, levering herself and Syrinx back on the platform and escaping from the nøkk's range, potentially condemning it to die out in the air.
• When she managed to recover, her first order of business was to stabilize Syrinx, starting on chest compressions and resorting to mouth-to-mouth resuscitations in the face of what seemed like Micah, another monster, not too far away ready to strike when its moment came.
• While Bryce was distracted by healing her friend, she discovered a severe injury on her own leg which the syndicated lê hadn't fully mended yet. Regardless, she decided to pick up her friend Syrinx and try to flee the incoming danger.
• Her sprite friend, Lehabah, decided to stay behind and buy Bryce and Syrinx some time, arguing that they would not otherwise make it away in time. Lehabah was also aware of a transaction Bryce made a week prior, paying off her personal freedom which Bryce planned to reveal at a surprise party later.
• Lehabah opted to use her own freedom to help her friends escape, also bidding her a heartfelt farewell and telling her to go while there still was hope for survival. As Bryce limped her way upstairs and away from the area, she could hear Lehabah summoning her powers and serving into her destiny with bravery and determination.
• Meanwhile in the conference room, Hunt bears witness to everything going on the feed and joined the others in giving Lehabah the final salute as vows to protect her friends without fear. As Bryce is finally behind the locked iron door, they all saw Lehabah show defiance to the nth degree by exploding a hundred thousand gallons of water to stall the dangerous creature, Micah.
