Chapter Eleven
Summary
- The chapter opens with Bryce preparing for the arrival of the Archangel and his associates, Hunt Athalar and Isaiah Tiberian, at her gallery. She is anxious but tries to keep calm.
- The Archangel and his entourage arrive, with Hunt lingering behind after the others enter. Bryce is heavily aware of the power radiating from the Archangel Micah - that which sets him and the nine others apart from ordinary angels.
- Bryce feels uneasy and even threatened by the presence of these powerful beings, particularly since the Archangels are also known as oppressive rulers over the lesser beings.
- Upon the arrival of Jesiba (Bryce's employer) via a video screen, conversations start regarding a murder committed in the same fashion of Bryce's friend Danika's death two years prior.
- Bryce is tasked by Micah to find the true murderer of the recent victim - implying that they might also be Danika's murderer, contrary to the current belief that Briggs (who is already in jail for other crimes) was responsible for her death.
- The power dynamics in the room and information revealed about the murder leave Bryce feeling even more affected, and nervous about her assigned task to find the truth.
