Chapter Thirty-Seven
Summary
- In the beginning of the "Crescent City" book chapter, Hunt, Quinlan, and three Fae males receive new information about another murder location. They quickly prepare to leave and meet with a team already setting up at the new crime scene.
- Quinlan, deeply affected by the ongoing murders, finds comfort and support from Hunt. He successfully calms her down and convinces her to accompany them to the crime scene, despite her fear and guilt.
- When they arrive at the crime scene, Bryce comes up with a theory about the murders. She notices all of them are located near major avenues, which are on top of ley lines - natural channels for the firstlight to travel through the city. Hunt confirms the theory and suggests that whoever is summoning the demon could be drawing upon the power of these ley lines to do so.
- Bryce has a conversation with Declan about Hunt. Declan warns Bryce that Hunt does the governor's dirty work and is bad news. Bryce brushes off his concern, but internally reflects on the possibility of Hunt's divided loyalties.
- Hunt and Bryce continue discussing their past romantic experiences, including the fact Hunt was in love with Shahar, who had sacrificed everything for him and their cause. This revelation causes some discomfort for Bryce and uneasiness between them.
- Upon wandering into Sabine, a known enemy of Bryce who publicly humiliates her, Bryce wants to avoid a confrontation. Hunt is ready to defend Bryce but holds himself back at her plea.
- After leaving the scene, Bryce and Hunt continue their conversation on the rooftop of Bryce's building, where Hunt vows they will find the murderer.
- The chapter ends with a phone call from Declan, who reveals that he has uncovered tampered footage from the night the Horn was stolen. They identify Sabine Fendyr, a prominent government official and Bryce's nemesis, as a potential suspect.
