Chapter Eighty-Two
Summary
- A gas explosion was explained to the Aux through the intercom. The person speaking had cleaned up the mess, including the ashes of the Archangel, which she had vacuumed and dumped in the bin out back.
- She had gone upstairs to comfort a scared pet named Syrinx, after which she checked her phone to find several missed calls and messages asking if she was alright.
- Jesiba had also messaged her, saying that everyone at the Summit had seen what had happened, to which she replied that it was good.
- The archives of the library were in ruins, but no trace remained of Lehabah.
- The corpse of a creature called the nøkk was found on the mezzanine floor.
- She experienced silence and grief due to the loss of a constant presence, Lehabah, and expressed concern that a judgment for her actions in the recent explosion might soon find her.
- Although she was healed physically, she felt nauseous and vomited, and wrestled with the idea of calling someone for help, but did not.
- To her expectation of punishment, she found no one came to chastise her. She then heard screaming and ran towards it, realizing that there were larger problems at play and that these were the reasons she had not been sought out or charged for her destructive actions.
- Things at the Summit were chaotic, and they were apparently more concerned with the fact Bryce had vacuumed up the ashes of a Governor than they were of punishing her.
- Among those at the Summit, there was a general agreement that Bryce was in danger and figuring out a way to protect her from the upcoming consequences became a priority.
- They discarded initial assumptions about a failed experiment involving a Horn, as it was revealed that the experiment had actually succeeded.
