Chapter Thirty-One
Summary
- Sandriel turns toward Hunt, Bryce, and Isaiah, recognising the former instantly. Bryce proceeds to take unexpected photos of her with the Archangels and causes a stir.
- Hunt is heavily affected by Sandriel's presence, and Bryce appears to handle the situation by acting flippantly and using his discomfort to guide him away from the scene.
- Micah confronts the pair at the elevator, blocking the crowd. Bryce maintains a story about wanting to meet the special guest, but Micah does not believe her. Hunt convinces Micah they were just picking up necessary items.
- Micah offers Bryce a dinner invitation, but she firmly rejects his offer, much to everyone's surprise.
- In an effort to escape, Hunt carries Bryce outside where they are met with a curious crowd and flying angels. They navigate an obstacle course of gym equipment and leap off a high balcony, with Hunt carrying Bryce.
- Hunt seems conflicted about Bryce’s rejection of Micah's invitation, whether it would affect his deal with Micah. Bryce prevents Hunt from worrying about it, insisting he was returning her previous favour from the night before.
- In the air, Bryce and Hunt have a conversation about her choice to live in the Old Square part of town over other districts and her reasoning for mixing up her running routines. Their banter becomes somewhat confrontational upon landing.
- Once back inside, Bryce rejects Hunt’s assumption that she’s avoiding romantic relationships with men like Micah simply because she is single. She believes this assumption is a misunderstanding and insists she is uninterested in him.
- The chapter ends with Bryce refusing to accompany Hunt to meet the Oracle the next day. Instead, she cheekily insists he handle that obligation alone.
