37. Gray Sharks
Summary
- In the early morning before Christmas, Kya heads to Jumpin’s to buy gas and supplies, intent on avoiding the sheriff and his deputy who have been trying to catch her at home.
- She detects low clouds and a threatening squall from the east, so she decides to finish quickly at Jumpin’s and get home.
- When she’s close to the wharf, she notices Jumpin's reaction. He doesn’t respond to her wave and does not stand up from his chair as he usually would.
- Kya realizes a large boat with a sheriff and other boats are coming towards her from the fog. She tries to escape heading for the open sea.
- The storm hits and the sea becomes rough. Despite a plan to possibly evade the sheriff by jumping into the sea and swimming to shore, the sheriff's boat catches up with her.
- She rams into one of the boats, getting knocked back and the sheriff grabs her boat. Two men climb into her boat.
- The deputy arrests Kya, accusing her of murdering Chase Andrews, but she doesn't hear anything after that.
