Chapter 5
Summary
- Sylvia and her friend Daisy go to a dance club and have a great time dancing and relaxing.
- They notice two of their male counterparts, Alex and Willie, watching them from the bar.
- Both Sylvia and Daisy are hesitant to approach Alex and Willie due to previous interactions, but eventually the four of them end up having a conversation.
- Alex and Daisy exchange tense words, their past relationship making their exchanges contentious. Sylvia finds herself mediating between Willie and Alex's strained relationship as well.
- The next morning, Sylvia brings up a potential lead in solving the mystery of their book's origins, previously discussed in the past chapters. She mentions the Sidwell family from Wiltshire, possibly connected to the book, and makes plans to provide Gabe with detailed directions to their residence.
- Sylvia discusses a cookbook with her landlord, Mrs. Parry. Sylvia offers to translate the cookbook's Asian language for Mrs. Parry, which admits she's looking to replicate an Asian dish for her tenants.
- Later on, Sylvia visits Gabe's residence, intending to deliver her information about the Sidwells and talk to Mrs. Ling, Gabe's cook. Upon reaching the house, Sylvia encounters the household's staff, including the butler, chauffeur, and footman, discussing Gabe's romantic relationship with Ivy Hobson.
