Part 1 — Chapter 7
Summary
- Edwin enters an old, enormous forest, fighting his way through thick underbrush.
- He decides to find his way to a large maple tree that's cleared an area around itself before returning to the beach.
- Upon reaching the tree, Edwin is confronted unexpectedly by a priest who is older than him with short, black hair.
- The priest greets Edwin and mentions occasional walks in the forest are something he enjoys.
- Edwin observes a peculiar accent he can't quite place but he guesses the priest may be from Newfoundland.
- Edwin mentions a church in Caiette but points out the priest he has met is not the usual priest there.
- The priest introduces himself as Roberts, who is covering for Father Pike.
- Pleasantries exchanged, Roberts departs for the church and Edwin is left alone, admiring the forest once more.
