Chapter 29: Peckem

In Chapter 29 of Catch-22, Colonel Scheisskopf is transferred to General Peckem's staff and is disappointed to find out that he will not be able to have his wife accompany him or have afternoon parades. Peckem brings him along on an inspection of Colonel Cathcart's squadron briefing, where the men are upset to learn that they will be bombing an innocent village. However, the real purpose of the mission is to get excellent aerial photography to impress General Peckem. Cathcart becomes annoyed to see another colonel, who he sees as a rival, at the briefing and personally delivers it, despite feeling nervous. He is proud of himself for being able to do the job under pressure.
