Chapter 24: Milo
In Chapter 24 of Catch-22, Milo's syndicate, M & M Enterprises, is revealed to have contracts with both the Americans and the Germans to supply and destroy planes, respectively. Milo finds himself with an excess of Egyptian cotton that he is unable to sell, which could potentially bring down his entire operation. Milo's camp is then bombed by his own planes, which he had contracted the Germans to do. Despite the attack, most of the survivors are willing to forgive Milo due to the profits they have made through his syndicate. Yossarian suggests that Milo ask the government to purchase his excess cotton, and Milo sees this as a smart idea.
