Chapter 25: The Chaplain

In Chapter 25 of Catch-22, the chaplain is feeling isolated and mistreated by the other characters. He has had religious visions and is haunted by dreams of his family's suffering. He tries to speak to Major Major about the high number of missions the men are required to fly, but Major Major will only see him when he is not in his office. The chaplain also learns that Corporal Whitcomb has been promoted to sergeant by Colonel Cathcart, and that Chief White Halfoat's old roommate Flume is so afraid of being killed in his sleep that he has taken to living in the forest. The chaplain also tries to socialize at the officers' club, but is repeatedly thrown out by Colonel Cathcart. The chaplain begins to doubt everything, including his faith.
