Chapter 22: Milo the Mayor

In Chapter 22 of Catch-22, the death of Snowden is revealed to be the moment when Yossarian loses his confidence. The incident occurs during a mission when Dobbs, a poorly skilled pilot, steals control of the plane and Snowden is killed. The narrator also describes a trip that Yossarian and Orr take with Milo to obtain supplies, during which they learn about Milo's extensive control over the black market and his influence internationally. Milo is revered as a god in various parts of Africa and has the ability to revitalize economies with his syndicate. While Milo stays in luxurious palaces on the trip, Yossarian and Orr are forced to sleep on the plane. They are also awoken in the middle of the night to help Milo rush a shipment of red bananas to the next stop.
