Chapter 12: Bologna

The Bologna mission is delayed due to rain and Yossarian tries to avoid flying by adjusting the map and giving the whole squadron food poisoning. Meanwhile, ex-P.F.C. Wintergreen competes with Milo in the black market, but Milo is unable to sell any of his Egyptian cotton. The men are miserable and frightened about the Bologna mission. Yossarian and Clevinger debate whether it is Yossarian's duty to fly the mission. The whole squadron becomes emaciated from the wait. Yossarian, Dunbar, and Nately go on a drunken drive with Chief White Halfoat and crash a jeep. Hungry Joe tries to shoot Huple's cat, but the men force him to give the cat a fair fight. Despite this, Hungry Joe has another nightmare about the cat.
